Wanted: Lemons, Sewists and LEGO(r) Brick Sorters

Wanted: Lemons, Sewists and LEGO(r) Brick Sorters

I’M PLAYING A GAME – The World Robot Olympiad Version of the Community Lemonade Game. I’ve created myself a challenge to build community around the Southern California Qualifier of the World Robot Olympiad, that will be held by the Robotics Society of Southern California (RSSC). So the Gauntlet… the challenge… is to successfully execute the competition on August 11th, 2018. In my quest for community around the World Robot Olympiad, I have a number of goals: space, equipment, coaches, skills, materials, players.

Will you make Lemonade with me?

Dear reader, I have been known to make simple tasks very complicated in the name of community. I fear I have substantially over complicated this particular task, and created a Game within a Game. It’s the Chinese Tour Group component of the World Robot Olympiad Version of the Community Lemonade Game.

Lest I confuse you, further, I will not try to explain the original game, or the current version of the game that I am playing. I will just share with you the needs for the Game within a Game.

We’re Making Lemonade

I am seeking ingredients for making Lemonade. For the sake of knowing the source of our ingredients, I will need to find folks who have businesses who might be willing to donate ingredients, or folks with lemon trees from which we can pick. Got oranges? That works too! Obviously we will need to do it in Long Beach or close by, because the in-person component of the game is being played in Long Beach, CA. Please feel free to contact me at my info email at makersville.net.

We’re Building Kits for the Scavenger Hunt

Master Model Builder Brian Heins has kindly designed a custom kit themed to the World Robot Olympiad. I gave him a specific set of parts from which to build, that sourced from other kits. There are 6 mini models that are so so cute! You can order your own kit here.

If you care to sort bricks for the game, we’re sorting at the Grace UMC at 3rd and Junipero tomorrow, Sunday 8/5/2018. Starts at noon!

I STILL need volunteers who speak both English and Chinese!

I’ve got interpreters lined up, but I need lots of folks who even know teeny tiny bits of Chinese. We’ve got a competition scheduled, and I haven’t lined up any interpreters for that day.  Do you speak Chinese and English? Will you make Lemonade with me?

We’re making Satchels for the Game

The first time you make a game, it’s a bit tricky. I knew we would have satchels, but I didn’t know how much I’d need them. So now, two days before the game kicks off, I decide I need to get 50 satchels made. I have tons of fabric that was donated 2 years ago. Yes, they may be flowery satchels, but oh well! We just need to carry our game items in something.

I think my satchel needs wheels.
The satchel holds things we need just for the day.

We’re doing this at Grace UMC at 3rd and Junipero tomorrow. Starts at noon!

How to find us at Grace UMC

We always land in community spaces that are hard to find. So now I have made a video and am leaving clues for you to find us as you walk along 3rd street, Eastwards from Junipero.

The video explains how to find us.

I would like to thank a few folks, groups and organizations. The Long Beach – Qingdao Sister City Association, the Port of Long Beach , the Robotics Society of Southern CaliforniaWill Wong, the WRO-USA organizer and Juniper Networks for their amazing support in this effort.

Trish Tsoiasue is a community builder based in Long Beach, California . She builds socially responsible, grassroots communities, has many hobbies and interests, and lots and lots of ideas. She is trained in LEGO(r) Serious Play and the Creative Problem Solving Institute‘s methods of intentional creativity. The communities she has created and in which she takes most pride are the Long Beach LEGO User Group, Makersville and ScoutMaker (a prototype community started at Title I, Lincoln Elementary School through a grant from Honda Research and Development arranged by the Long Beach BSA ). You can find all posts related to this current game on the Squigglemom website.

It's so delicious!
